As-building program
As-building Program for Producer’s Legacy Facility
Project Background:
- A gas plant in Northern Alberta dating back to the 1980s.
- Most of the drawings were lost in a past fire incident.
- The client acquired the facility and discovered a lack of documentation.
- Comprehensive as-building was needed to facilitate a facility HAZOP, allowing for future plant expansions and modifications.
Solution & Execution:
- Valor EPC received a package containing twelve hand-drawn mechanical flowsheets, a PFD, a plot plan, and some site photos.
- Hand-drawn images were drafted in AutoCAD before the site visit.
- A project kickoff meeting with the client's PM and operations team determined the required level of detail and focus areas.
- Valor deployed a skilled two-person team to the site to gather detailed information on piping, equipment, and instrumentation.
- The as-building team worked diligently, sending daily redlined markups back to the home office for drafting.
- Continuous communication and collaboration with client discipline leads and operations led to multiple revisions until the entire package met HAZOP quality standards.
Final Results:
- A fully reviewed and approved as-built package was delivered in less than a month, including a plot plan, two PFDs, and seventeen P&IDs.
- Fire and Gas P&IDs were developed.
- The initial drawing package consisted of fourteen drawings, while the final IFC (Issued for Construction) package included forty drawings, with twenty-six new drawings created in the process.
Key Achievements:
- Transformation from hand-drawn mechanical flow sheets to a CAD-drafted as-built package in less than four weeks.
- Successful project completion with costs coming in 17% under budget.
- The HAZOP process was highly successful, thanks to the quality of the as-built drawings. Valor efficiently integrated both HAZOP and IFC modifications within the original as-built budget.
